Treating Acne with Prescription Medications
57Flawless skin is the target for anyone looking into treating acne. It was for me. Acne free for six years now, I have been through every over the counter product, an unbelievable amount of natural remedies and finally a prescription routines. When it came to treating acne, I left no stone unturned.
Frustration is the first word I think of when I’m reminded of what I went through with my skin. Looking in the mirror was painful to say the least. I was running around in circles, constantly in a vicious cycle trying to treat acne. Scrubbing my face and caking makeup over my breakouts to try to conceal them from the rest of the world became my daily routine. Needless to say, this was not the answer to treating acne, and I knew it.
I was always in the store looking for the latest product released, and buying it. Upon arriving home, I would wash my face several times with the new product. Apply to skin, scrub, scrub, scrub, and then rinse off. Within two days, I was fed up with my purchase, and back in the store looking for the next acne treatment regimen to assault my skin with. This dance went on for two years, and must have cost me a fortune!
Finally, I decided to contact a dermatologist. “I can be pretty again if I can just get rid of this acne,” I told the dermatologist forlornly. She could tell I was fed up and spoke to me with kind words. When she announced, “I can help you clear your skin up, but you have to follow my regimen to the tee”, I was ecstatic.
With a prescription for a topical treatment and another for antibiotics, I was feeling like my struggles may be over. I wasn’t going to set my sights on the creamy, flawless skin that I used to have until I saw results. I started the antibiotics immediately.
I’m not going to brag and boast that I found the cure-all for treating acne. Everyone’s skin is different, but there are key factors in healthy skin. In my case, I was prescribed doxycycline for the treatment of acne. Do exercise caution when taking antibiotics. Although it didn’t happen to me, antibiotics can cause yeast infections and decrease the effectiveness of birth control pills.
How to Treat Acne Without Medication?
Within three days of taking the antibiotic and applying the topical gel, I admonish, there was a drastic change in my skin. The acne had decreased tremendously and my pores had diminished in size. My skin was taking on a new glow, and felt much softer. Any acne that I still had was smaller in size and seemed to be slowly disappearing.
My skin has been free of acne without any antibiotics or medications for six years now. I simply wash my face with a mild soap and warm water and once a week I wash with an exfoliating wash to get rid of any dead skin cells. I cannot express how wonderful it is to not be afraid of looking in the mirror. Every day is a new day now, and it’s so much nicer going out into the world with a fresh face.
